For the past 8 plus years I've wondered off and on just what exactly caused the curious condition we've come to identify as Bush Derangement Syndrome in some people. Then today, with a hat tip to Mrs. BigDog who discovered the nexus, it all became clear.
As proof of my hypothesis I offer first as evidence the quite obvious cult of personality that has been built around our new President, Barack Obama. We've seen it time and time again with endless clips of empty rhetoric without substance being lapped up by adoring crowds chanting "Yes, we can".
As my next proof I offer libtalk radio host, and willing Obamagandist, Ed Schultz sitting in the front row at President Obama's Monday evening press conference, grinning like a possum eating a sweet potato. Schultz is the Rush Limbaugh of libtalk radio, the biggest kid on the block. The doe eyed look on his face suggested that his mind was saying... "Let me help you with your fly, Mr. President."
And if you don't get that reference, Mrs. Obama herself doesn't look at Mr. Obama that way in public... not that I've ever seen, anyway.
Then there is the curious case of the Ft. Myers town hall this past Tuesday. You may have seen this young man on a number of different outlets.
Now I am left to wonder whether this guy had a moving religious experience or simply shot a load in his pants reflexively in the presence of his messiah, President Obama. I am also absolutely certain why he has been working part time at McDonald's for four years and hasn't found anything better. Equally, I am sure that he likely blames President Bush for everything from the crucifixion forward. Assuming of course he can actually spell "Bush".
Finally I offer this... also from the Ft. Myers town hall.... keep your eyes on the woman in white at the left of the frame.
This woman seriously looks like she is having an orgasmic moment. It's either that or she is auditioning for the role of "Bunny Boiler" in a remake of Fatal Attraction. Talk about a cult of personality.
At it's core, and taken in sum, all of this behavior, in large part, explains the curious phenomenon of Bush Derangement Syndrome as, assumptively, all those who (like this woman) have succumbed and given themselves over to the President's charms are the very same people who most often spew BDS. They are flat out, uncontravertibaly nuckin' futz.
It really is a disease. It just manifests itself differently depending on who happens to be sitting in the Oval Office at any given moment. It is up to us, the sane ones, to properly channel the derangement and put it in it's rightful place as part of society's fabric.
Then, just maybe, we can get past this incessant march toward socialism and get on with the nation's business.
