What I am thankful for….
…God who has blessed my family richly, and whose presence is always felt.
…A brilliant blue New Mexico sky with a few puffy white clouds, and the mountains all around me.
…Getting ready to pack for a trip to Texas to see my children and grandchildren. The chance to be with Alessandro on his first birthday, and my daughter and son in law on their 10th wedding anniversary.
…A bonus that on the trip to Texas, Mr. Tow and I will get to see Chris, The Annoyed Man for another visit.
…My two aging but still remarkably healthy dogs who are curled up on the floor beside my desk as I sit here typing.
…Watching the birds that come to the feeder right outside the window by my computer.
…My relatively good health, and the insulin pump that I have been using for the past nine months, which has finally brought my diabetes under control.
…The Constitution of the United States, which is worth fighting to preserve.
…The result of the election earlier this month in which “We The People” spoke and are a force to be reckoned with for the future.
…A new governor here in New Mexico, who will work to reduce the corruption in the state. The bonus in this one is that Mr. Tow and I have had a chance to get to know Susana Martinez and her husband (First Dude) Chuck Franco personally and that we KNOW what kind of people they are.
…The smell of pumpkin pie baking.
…My aging Mom who at 85 is challenged with an increasingly useless body but whose mind is sharp as ever, and who loves to discuss politics and the future of this country with me every Sunday when we talk on the phone.
…My grandchildren who have their own precious personalities and who are on the road to a future I will not live to see.
…My memories of friends through the years who have enriched my life. And my friends today who bring me joy and happiness every day.
…Chocolate.
…A Sousa march played by a really good marching band.
…A roaring fire in the fireplace on a cold night.
…Hot chocolate on a snowy day … with marshmallows!
…The smell of green chile roasting throughout our city.
…The opportunity I have been given in my retirement years to live in the city I have dreamed of being a part of for most of my adult life. Thanks to God on this one!
…Actually, thanks to God for ALL of the things I am thankful for…and for his forgiveness daily for all the times when I mess up.
What’s on your “thanks” list?
