If you think a college English Composition course should be agenda free? Think again. Here are a book and an article that were assigned to my son and daughter in their English Composition courses at West Valley Junior College:

Fast Food Nation:The Dark Side of the All-American Meal

The Wal-Mart Effect

These were assigned to be the basis for compositions. Students were left to their own devices when it came to finding materials to balance these highly opinionated sources (the latter was written by a union activist). My son, who was assigned FFN, was, at the time, an assistant manager at a fast-food restaurant, so he had a rather different, inside perspective. My daughter, who was assigned TWME, is rather resourceful and informed also. Then there's her parents ... :lildevil: . Unfortunately, many of their fellow students uncritically (and maybe lazily, too) bought FFN's and TWME's line.
