Thoughts on Hypocrisy

E-mail Print PDF

The words "hypocrisy" or "hypocrite" are often used rather loosely. A hypocrite is a person who criticizes people who something which they themselves do but pretend not to. In light of this, a person who once did something, stopped, and now criticize or advocate against doing that something is not a hypocrite. They have learned from their experience.

On a somewhat different tangent, an explanation many people use for not considering Christianity is that, "The church has too many hypocrites." The curious thing about this "argument" is that it acknowledges the worth of what is being rejected. In complaining of the failure of many to live up to certain standards, the rightness of those standards is affirmed.
