An Honest Appraisal of Dana Loesch's NRA Ad

First, a disclosure in the name of clarity and transparency: I am an Endowment Life Member of the National Rifle Association, so I am not an impartial observer of these events. However, I always try to be an honest purveyor of information, and I am painfully aware that — just as happens on the left — there are conservatives and libertarians who are poor witnesses for the 2nd Amendment's individual right to keep and bear arms (RKBA). I mention libertarians and conservatives because, for the past 20 years or so, liberals have been advocating for the Amendment's demise - arguing for an interpretation that is so far removed from the intent of its authors as to be a complete reversal of that intent.

However, I do not think that NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch is a poor witness for the RKBA. The NRA recently released another video in its "Freedom's Safest Place" series - short videos featuring prominent Americans who are pro-2nd Amendment - with Dana Loesch as the presenter in this one. Here is the actual video:

I agree that the tone of Ms. Loesch's voice grows increasingly angry as the video reaches its conclusion, but on the other hand, exactly nowhere is she advocating violence - which is the charge leveled by the hysterics on the left. Here is the transcript, which you should read in its entirety:

They use their media to assassinate real news.

They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler.

They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again.

And then they use their ex-president to endorse “the resistance.” All to make them march. Make them protest. Make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding – until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.

And when that happens, they’ll use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.

"They" is the collective left, and particularly that body of people who also seek to suppress the individual RKBA.

Let's take this apart, statement by statement.......

"They use their media to assissinate real news": Only liberals deny that the nation's news media are overwhelmingly in the liberal camp. They reinforce that notion by lambasting the ONE news outlet - FoxNews - for daring to march out of ideological lockstep with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NYT, LAT, TIME, NEWSWEEK, USA TODAY, CHICAGO SUN TIMES, etc., etc., etc. Conservatives, on the other hand, know exactly what is going on, because it is their values, their people, their voters, their politicians, and their issues that are constantly held up for ridicule by the left's media monlith. And lately, we've even lost FoxNews. The media gianst NEVER hold up liberal values, people, politicians, and issues for ridicule. They just don't. They pounce on a completely discredited story of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia's Putin, while completely ignoring (A) the previous administration's promise, on a hot microphone no less, to be flexible with Putin if he would just back off during the election until Obama had more room for a Russian BOHICA; and (B) the democrat nominee's selling off of 20% of our uranium reserves to a Russian consortium in exchange for a donation of several million dollars to the nominee's "foundation" (AKA "shakedown operation") while she was a sitting Secretary of State. The liberal media - but I repeat myself - saw NO impropriety in either of those democrat pecadilloes, which are both well documented, while harping on a charge that amounts to treason against the republican winner, promoting a fake story, purely for ratings, and in the process doing all they can to try and take down a sitting president. Here is what CNN's own people had to say about the Trump/Russia story (below, right):

And that is just CNN, and recently at that. Anybody remember the CBS fraud known as RatherGate, and how long it took for CBS to finally admit that they had a serious problem on their hands? How about the NYT repeating the false story that Rep. Gabby Gifford's shooter was inspired by a Sarah Palin campaign ad......when it turned out that he had not only never seen the ad, when was both a self-identified leftist, and had a written record of his thoughts in the matter.

And in the meantime, the leftmedia showed ZERO interest in the contents of the leaked DNC emails which were a real story, with real consequences. Then DNC Chair Donna Brazil accusing those journalists who did question her of being racist and persecuting her when they asked about her role in throwing the DNC nomination to Hillary Clinton. The leftmedia is incredibly incurious about the DNC's actions in tanking Bernie Sanders' candidacy when he began to threaten Clinton in the polls. The intellectual bankruptcy is absolutely astounding.

So yes, Loesch is correct. The "they" of the media (the same ones who continuously beat the drum against the NRA and the RKBA) actually do "assassinate" real news, spiking it to protect their people, and promoting fake news stories to try and damage conservatives. They absolutely do this. As a literary matter, was the choice of the word "assassinate" a bit over top? Yes, speaking strictly as a literary critic, it is. But it is true that they kill off the truth whenever it doesn't suit their narrative.

Next......

"They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler": I submit for your review the following example: School Lesson Compares Trump to Hitler, Mussolini.

A group of moms in Saratoga Springs, New York has decided to fight back against what they call the radical leftwing indoctrination that has infested the local school system.

snip........

She realized it was time to take a stand after a teacher at the local high school led a classroom presentation on fascism that included a graphic portrayal comparing President Donald Trump to Hitler and Mussolini.

That’s right, folks.

A tenth grade teacher at Saratoga Springs High School led a discussion on the rise of fascism during World War Two by referencing President Trump.

Try and find that story anywhere except FoxNews and some conservative editorial sites. But it is true. Try and find for me any major media stories about schools which taught that Obama was comparable to Lenin, or that Hillary Clinton was comparable to Stalin (except maybe her "dead list" is longer.....).

Here's another one....and in this case, the teacher was placed on paid leave, and then reinstated, without retracting what he taught: History Teacher Removed From Classroom For Comparing Trump To Hitler. THAT article adds a subtitle: "It’s not propaganda or bias if it’s based on hard facts." Really? What facts would those be? In modern America, that subtitle is what passes for journalistic objectivity. Can non-leftist be blamed for at least rolling our eyes, if not expressing some vocal anger over the terrible job that the 4th Estate is doing?

There are plenty of other stories like these two, but for the most part, you have to circumvent the wall of silence put up by the MSM to find them. But they are no less true for that. When the gatekeepers of information are themselves invested in deciding what gets out and what doesn't, so that their narrative does not get upset, are average, decent, heartland Americans supposed to just stand by without an opinion?

"They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again.": unless you live under a rock and come out only once a year to see your shadow, this one needs no explaining. The only people in Hollywood who don't act like their celebrity gives them a bully pulpit to disparage the character of their paid audiences are conservatives.....and there aren't that many of them left...at least that we know of. Unless you're already a huge star, admitting to being anything other than Sean Penn's sock puppet can be career suicide. Why? Because lefties think you should be deprived of your livelihood and punished if you don't buy their manure hook, line, and sinker.

"And then they use their ex-president to endorse “the resistance.” All to make them march. Make them protest. Make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding – until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.": Even Snopes admits that it is partly true (and they love them some Obama). The FULL story, uncorrupted by Snopes' lefty apologetics, can be found here. Let me quote a little for you:

President Obama addressed members of the military for the last time in December and gave his blessing for them to challenge the authority of President-elect Donald Trump freely.

Speaking at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, Obama told the soldiers about “the foundation that we will leave for the next administration.” That would include “each of us [having]…the universal right to speak your minds and to protest against authority; to live in a society that’s open and free; that can criticize our president without retribution.”

Obama’s speech included the idea that U.S. policy is to counter “violent extremism” in its many forms and the implication was that Trump’s plans might fall under that category:

Barack Obama urges Americans to 'stand up to hate'. Since they have already defined people like me as "haters", aided and abetted by the Democrat Steno Pool (AKA, the media), exactly what does Obama think the left is going to do with that?

Both former presidents Carter and Obama (not accidentally the two most liberal presidents we've ever had) have used their bully pulpit to try and yank the rug out from under American stability. Even former POTUS Clinton wasn't that crapulent. But those two go out of their way to paint us as the most racist, white supremacist, intolerant, yada yada yada nation under the son - completely ignoring those nations where being gay gets you tossed off of a building, or where their god is used as an excuse to commit actual terrorist acts ......not the acts like exercising free speech, or having a different opinion, or having a traditional gender preference, or any one of the litnay of "terrorist" thoughts that trigger the snowflakes on our university campuses. The left is doing everything in its power to silence anyone who disagrees with them. They march, they scream. They call the NRA a white supremacist organization. black NRA memberI'm pretty sure that this gentleman to the right would disagree. The lack of actual knowledge they have of exactly who makes up the NRA is appalling; but then like good like fascists everywhere, they are not interested in data that does not support their hypothesis. That makes it easy for them to compile a "unified theory of redneck ignorance" ........never mind that some of those "rednecks" have doctorates in economics, the sciences, and {{gasp!!}} actual history. Never mind that some of them are lawyers and doctors. Never mind that some them are gay men or lesbians. Nevermind that some of them are Muslim (I personally know several Muslim NRA members). Never mind that some of them are Jews. Never mind that some of them, like the gentleman to the right, are African-American, or others are Hispanic. Never mind that women is one of the fastest growing NRA demographics. But our ex-president is out there trying to sew disunity because the politics of victimology espoused by the left demand that all such people are victims. The NRA preaches that they are NOT, and that they are not victims because they have a 2nd Amendment right to defend themselves by whatever means necessary.

During the rioting in Baltimore two years ago, Baltimore's mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake "created space" for rioters to burn down businesses. Her exact words were that she wanted to 'give space to those “who wished to destroy.”' Here's what passes for "reasoning" in her mind:

“I’ve made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech,” Rawlings-Blake said during a press conference Saturday night.

“It’s a very delicate balancing act, because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

She wanted to make sure that the rioters were protected from moving vehicles, without inhibiting the rioters' ability to destroy a person's hard-built business and property, putting them out of work along with their employees. What kind of fresh hell is that? In what world does someone entrusted with the authority to maintain the law decide to deliberately give angry thugs freedom to destroy the lives of other people without consequence to themselves?

THIS is the context in which Dana Loesch says that, at some point, the only option that DECENT citizens have is to get out of the way so that the police can DO. THEIR. JOBS.

The difference Clinton and Trump in the popular vote amounts to about 1% or less of the population, but Trump won in the only place that counts according to the Constitution of the United States - the Electoral College, in which he administered his opponent a good old fashioned beat down. HE. IS. THE. PRESIDENT. Get over it! I hated that Obama won both times, and I endured 8 years of bad gov't, but I never rioted. I never beat up or even tried to physically intimidate anyone with whom I disagreed. I managed to maintain relationships with people whom I care about, but with whom I profoundly disagree. I certainly own enough guns that, if I was anything like DNC spokesperson, Bernie Bro, and attempted assassin James T. Hodgkinson, there would be a whole lot of dead liberal politicians. But I am not like that. I respect the right of people to disagree with me. When my guy loses, I grudgingly accept the other guy's authority. I don't like it, but I don't go burning down buildings and beating lefties with bicycle locks because I lost. I don't engage in tantrums, like some kind of overgrown child.......which describes exactly the behavior of the left since Trump's election. I recognize that every dog has his day in the sun, and sometimes my vote wins, and sometimes it doesn't. I ended up voting - somewhat unenthusiastically - for Trump. I agree that he is crass. I agree with a lot of people that he sometimes shoots himself in the foot. But, Dennis Prager put it best in a recent analogy when he - a Trump critic - ended up voting for Trump. He said, "when you have two doors, one of which is marked 'Man Eating Lion Inside', and the other marked 'Maybe Man Eating Lion Inside', and you have to go through one or the other door, I'll pick the one that says 'Maybe Man Eating Lion Inside' every single time. I chose the door with 'maybe' on it. Now that guy is my president, and I simply cannot abide by people who are willing to do whatever it takes to destabilize the society, trying to push it over into political violence.

I am TIRED of being called a 'hater' (which is ironic considering the source) because I belong to the NRA. I am TIRED of being told by people who don't really know what the NRA is or does that my membership makes me an "irresponsible gun owner".....as if they would know what that even means. I am TIRED of having my 2nd Amendment rights attacked by people who also do not stand for freedom of speech or religion or assembly. And most hurtful of all, I am SICKENED in my heart, when being told by people whom I consider as friends, that "all Christians should resign their NRA membership and denounce them", otherwise they aren't being a faithful believer. That's a deplorable tactic.

I refuse to be manipulated by people who operate on incomplete information and preconcieved notions, who reject data when it is inconvenient to their narrative. Is Dana Loesch's tone of voice a little over the top in this video? Yes, it is. BUT, in her defense, I know that she is sick and tired of the left's bullshit, and she's had enough. She's pissed off. I know that's how she feels, because that is how I and several million other NRA members feel. People sometimes talk to us like they wish they could put us in camps to silence us. We are tired of being marginalized. We are tired of it, and we are pissed off about it.

And the almost 300 million guns in America are in our hands, so the left really should ask themselves how long and how much they think they can abuse us before we put an end to it? Ever since the Revolution, America's gun owners have lived peaceably alongside people who think that the individual RKBA is a bad idea. How far will those people push before the gun owners push back? That's not a threat; that's a plea for liberals/leftists to take a step back from the brink and stop pushing. Give us some breathing room, or suffer the consequences.

"And when that happens, they’ll use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.":Let me show you some examples of the "clenched fist of truth".......

Here is a gallery of images of "clenched fists of thruth":

Now, every-single-use of the clenched fist in these images is in promotion of a "left of center" cause. SOME of them are associated with violent revolution. The one with Lenin involved the murders of literally millions of people. But when a well known NRA representative makes a 1 minute long video, in which she says at the end that we have to fight this violence of lies with a clenched fist, that somehow WE are the instigators of violence, that WE are haters, that WE are threatening people.

Frankly, the response is just another snow storm, and I simply can't take it seriously. No serious thought was put into the accusations against the NRA, so none of them deserve a serious consideration. If that offends my friends, then stop calling me a white supremacist and hate monger, and stop telling me that I can't be sincere in my faith if I refute the charge.
