The Truth about That Dishonest Vanity Fair Palin Story, from One Who Was There
The Truth about That Dishonest Vanity Fair Palin Story, from One Who Was There

| Quote: | Reading his tripe was excruciating. Some 90% of the hard accusations are attributed to anonymous “sources.” ... You have to
do better than attributing everything to an anonymous “Deep Throat.”
I have read a lot of MSM slime over the years, but never, ever have I felt subjected to a more jealous, petty, sophomoric, disturbed piece of ragslime
than I do after reading this latest on Sarah Palin. Gross left nothing alone. He attacked her beauty, intelligence, marriage, parents, friends,
family, children, ability, sincerity, honesty, faith, state, husband, home, shoes, speeches, pastor, book, job, cooking, hunting skills, supporters,
church, weight, undergarments… the list goes on. ...
...
As I stood backstage with the Palins I remember a reporter asking me if I were “Trig’s Nanny” with a hint of something I didn’t trust in his eyes. I
coldly retorted, “no, I am Samuel’s mother.” ... In his VF story, he said that no one is willing to speak about Sarah “on the record” unless they
are paid by her, or afraid. I was one of the people you interviewed Mr. Gross. I am not paid, or afraid. But since you opted not to print what I
told you, here is the rest of the story:
...
One more thing among your errors: “the boy” in the excerpted quote above, was not Trig Palin. That was my Samuel, also a beautiful boy with Down
syndrome. No “nanny whisk(ed) the boy away.” I am his mother. I took my son, Samuel from Sarah before she went on stage. I told Mr. Gross that
fact, but he didn’t let that divert him from his pathetic narrative. |
If you have friends/acquaintances who have chortled about the recent Vanity Fair hit piece (or have yourself chortled), this is a MUST
READ!!! Dr. Loudon dismantles Gross's hit piece, pointing out contradictory first-hand experiences and at least a couple of truly
stupid errors in fact.

Saying anything about Palin
Ben Smith
Politico
9/1/10
| Quote: | A
former aide to the McCain campaign got in touch with me this morning to cop to being the half-serious progenitor of a story which, embellished almost
beyond recognition, appears in Vanity Fair's portrait today of Sarah Palin as monster.
...
The Vanity Fair story also focuses on Palin's temper, which may well be a real quality but can't be quite as out-of-control as its portrayed: It
isn't something the campaign staff — even the large number of them who derided her as lazy, undisciplined or unready — complained of.
...
But my takeaway from the magazine piece is more that you can really write anything about Palin. |
Ben Smith and Politico are probably not especially in love with former Gov. Palin, adding piquancy to Smith's dismissive brush-off of Gross's hit
piece.

Palin hit piece an example of shoddy
journalism
By Rusty Weiss - The Daily Caller
Published: 10:08 AM 09/02/2010 | Updated: 10:56 AM 09/03/2010
| Quote: | Michael Joseph Gross of Vanity Fair is the kind of journalist you’ve come to expect these days. He’s the kind of journalist
that tabloid reporters look at with disdain. The kind of reporter producing work that even TMZ photogs would consider beneath them. He’s the kind
of journalist you’d expect to find rooting through one’s garbage for some deep, dark secret to expose to the world.
His recent hit piece on Sarah Palin follows the same theme, entitled, “Sarah Palin the Sound and the Fury.” In this piece, Gross goes on a
mind-numbingly long (10,000+ words) diatribe about Palin’s secretive, dark, backstage persona.
...
With so many words focusing on Palin’s life being a lie, one would imagine that the journalist had a host of witnesses, friends, or sources from which
to pool information. And indeed, Gross has plenty. There’s just one problem. He can’t name any of them.
Allow me to clarify. It’s not that he can’t find any sources with actual names; it’s that they all have really weird names. Names like . . .
* The bellhops in Kansas
* The bellman at a mid-western hotel
* The maids
* A onetime gubernatorial aide
* One close aid
* One aid (presumably not so close)
...
Sweeping allegations in the column are so fantasy-filled, that one would expect an actual legitimate source to verify the claims. |
Pointed out above in Dr. Loudon's article, this earlier article takes gross to task for his almost total reliance on annoymorous sources.

Like I said, Ben Smith and Politico
aren't exactly Palin Lovers. Smith makes a big deal of:
| Quote: | | Palin almost never talks to neutral media outlets, leaving her — as critics accurately note — subject to none of the questions,
challenges and reality checks that the political press puts regularly to almost every other national political figure. She takes a lot of heat for
this, deservedly. |
and
| Quote: | | Of
course, this might not happen if she spoke to reporters, but that's no excuse. |
But I think this chicken-egg conundrum actually has a definable starting point: the MSM started the hit pieces and rumor-mongering before they had
time to attempt to interview her. So maybe Smith should turn his critical gaze back to his own profession, for having created the hostile environment
which former Gov. Palin chooses to encounter infrequently. Her choice is rational: why give credibility to known hateful liars?
